When I was allowed to spend a semester in Salamanca in Spain at the end of the eighties, I found a friend, an art student and native Salamantinos, who was a few years older and with whom I took some night philosophizing, discuss and obscenities tearing through the bars of this beautiful university city ,
One evening, we walked through the old streets, it was winter and very cold, we came up with the seasons, their characteristics, influences to speak to the people, advantages and disadvantages.
At once said my companion, in its specific, sometimes rare kind: "I like winter better: He selects more"
This was for him not only in relation to his beloved hometown, which also in- summer besides all the foreign students and Spachkursabsolventen of crowds and foreign tourists is flooded, though his attitude may have been originally therefore inspired.
His statement came to me about twenty years old again and again through the head; of course related to the fact that Salamanca with its continental climate at 900 meters above sea level, although certainly knows a pronounced winter, but of course this shorter and milder fails, than with us; also the spring before granted, like autumn after a long hot and dry summer there is less long than in Germany.
Nevertheless R. was not a flat spirits who led such a sentence merely for their particular area or location.
Perhaps we may in turn be particularly German grateful to be able to experience such an extraordinary, true four seasons, as they are usually found in any other climate.
