"I broke my arm, perhaps to my good"
This proverb, translated from the Spanish original, has long been one of my favorites.
Because this page is probably rarely visited by half illiterate or rather obtuse, I do not always explain how strong metaphor is present here.
So I am just adjoining neighbor: the subjunctive.
"If I had told the boss that ... then ..." "If my girlfriend at the time had not been so stubborn ... then ..." "If I had not had the bad luck then that ... then ...!"
All kinds of such conditionals in the form of "impossible condition", the impossible condition, we hear daily.
Strangely enough, but mostly soherum in speculation, except times maliciously against others, that the person is talking about it, otherwise it would have fared better Unlucky and he become the biggest hero.
That, even something Schiefgegeganes otherwise could have been going out a lot dumber, namely instead of arm from broken head, you can hear other hand, very rarely.
I myself, for example, was robbed twice in my life; once I was so amateurish-violent anesthetized with chloral hydrate, that I owed it probably only my excellent constitution, after 16 hours in the hospital Blackout wake up again (Naples). The second time I hit a small Mexican rabble warlord bloody nose, and I let the tears run whining because they were fifth, but I got away (Acapulco).
For a third time, I was not robbed, but happened to me almost literally what the above proverb (also) says.
In my youthful arrogance (28) I went with the doorman of a nightclub on, mind you only in words, but as these that went out well, took me the Schwarzgurtkarateka suddenly with such force the foot against the left temple that I truly lucky may still reflexively get the left hand between them and thus to have taken a probable homicide took only a broken wrist, which I feel a bit only when weather changes yet now and then a reminder or exhortation (Würzburg).
I want to say that I would be the negligent Fehldosierern from Naples, the Dumbo from Acapulco or the immoderation of Würzburg for the members lessons in terms of learning success nigh grateful, but I am very much thankful that I without all three situations not of course permanent damage have survived.
And if my wrist would not have been broken - who knows? - Maybe I would be the next week, just "why" of 15 meters from the scaffolding crashed on church steeple and the Genack would have brought in thereat fracture.
